How to complete a Choices application
Some time in November, you should receive a personalized application for your child
if he/she attends an LAUSD school. Please use this application form as it expedites the process
and makes the chance of error less likely.
If you do not receive a personalized application form, you may still apply by
getting a blank application form that is available at your local LAUSD school,
local district offices,
and
Los Angeles Public Libraries.
Please make sure to complete this form accurately as it is how we
identify your child and determine eligibility to our programs.
Applicants MUST be residents within the Los Angeles Unified School District
(LAUSD) at the time of application and while participating in a LAUSD Magnet, Permits With Transportation
or NCLB-Public School Choice program.
There are 173 Magnets from which to choose. NO NEW APPLICATION IS NECESSARY,
if your child is currently enrolled in a Magnet program, and wishes
to continue at the same school next year. A NEW APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED if he/she
will be matriculating to the next school level (elementary to middle or middle to
high) in 2010-2011 school year and wishes to continue in the Magnet Program or he/she wants
to change Magnets. Please click
here
for assistance in selecting a Magnet.
Gifted/Highly Gifted Magnets
ONLY gifted/high ability and highly gifted Magnets require specific
eligibility criteria for selection. No other screening, including grades, placement
tests or auditions may be used as criteria for admitting or eliminating students.
Please visit the Gifted/Talented programs page for more information by clicking
here.
Special Requirements for the Magnet Program
Students applying for high school math/science Magnets must have successfully
completed or be prepared to take Algebra IAB.
Uniform Requirements
Some Magnet Schools have a student uniform policy; please call the Magnet Coordinator to
obtain information regarding their uniform policy. Please click
here
to view the list of Magnet schools/centers that enforce a uniform policy.
School assignments for PWT applicants are made by the District. Provided that space
continues to be available, students are matriculated to the next school level (elementary
to middle or middle to high) and a new application is NOT necessary. PWT placement
is determined by the nearest elementary school.
Public School Choice (PSC) is offered to students currently attending a Program Improvement school.
To determine if the student attends an eligible Program Improvement (PI) school, please check the Program
Improvement (PI) school and Schools At-Risk for PI tool by clicking
here.
