The Magnet Programs are a Court-Ordered voluntary integration opportunities available
to students in grades K-12 living within the LAUSD boundaries. Currently, there
are
173 Magnet Programs
located throughout the District. All District students, including English Learners,
Special Education and Gifted/Talented are encouraged to apply.
Students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) may be eligible for Magnet
School placement, providing it is determined that a free appropriate public education
(FAPE) is available at the proposed site. The first consideration is to ensure that
the IEP team recommendations, based on the student’s assessed needs, can be met.
Please review this website to determine if any of the programs fit your child’s
needs. These programs are choices that work for students, parents, the community
and the nation. If you want to apply for one of the limited number of spaces, please
see pages 5-15 of the CHOICES brochure, complete the application on page 17 and
ensure that it is postmarked or received by the deadline of Friday, December
18, 2009 at 5:00 P.M.
If a student is continuing in the same Magnet Program at the same school next year,
no new application is necessary.
However, if the child’s name was on a waiting list
last year,
a new application must be submitted to be eligible for selection.
