Program Description
Communication Arts (journalism, radio-television broadcasting, theatre, video/film production, computers, digital arts and advertising) prepares students to acquire and accurately use information and communication technologies equipping them to effectively communicate orally, in writing, and through multimedia formats. Magnets infuse technology throughout the curriculum to create exciting and rigorous programs.

Magnet Mission:
The Maurice Sendak Arts, Communication, and Technology (CAT) Magnet Center, in conjunction with community partnerships, will enrich the learning experiences and empower our students to reach their potential to explore and express their own unique abilities and talents to become global digital citizens. Through the implementation of a rich and compelling arts and technology program the school will foster 21st Century Skills, including but not limited to communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. All students will attain the college and career readiness goals set forth by the Los Angeles Unified School District. The Sendak ACT Magnet Center strives to create a nurturing environment in which all students, English Language Learners, students with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, Gifted and High Achieving students, students of multiple ethnicities, will find success in their participation and expression of learning in and through the arts. Sendak ACT Magnet Center will establish and maintain an authentic integration of the Arts and Technology in the instructional program supported by continuous professional growth and training for our staff. The Sendak community, parents, and staff believe that the future success of every child is paramount to the collaboration, support, and connection between one another. We believe that effective communication and the application of knowledge, expressed through the arts, media, and/or technology, is the foundation to a successful future in education and life.
