Magnet Vision:
Kester Magnet has always looked for new and exciting ways to encourage our gifted and high ability learners, retaining successful strategies and innovating with new methods as we meet the needs of our students. Our teachers continue the quest to present our students with the highest quality education, integrating new technology and methods to help them face the challenges of the 21st century.
Magnet Mission:
Kester Magnet is here to provide gifted and high achieving students with tools needed to pursue their academic goals in a welcoming environment. We present subjects in deep and complex ways, allowing our students the opportunity to work at an accelerated pace and in a thought-provoking manner. We celebrate the diversity in our classrooms and the perspectives that diversity brings to our educational environment.
Academic/Career Pathways:
At Kester Magnet, we believe elementary gifted and high achieving students should be exposed to all academic and career pathways. We present a balanced curriculum in math and science as well as language arts and social science. Visual and performing arts and physical education are also presented. We believe our students need exposure to all avenues available so they may choose an appropriate pathway for their interests as they approach secondary school.
Academic Competition Teams:
We do not have any formal academic competition teams, due to the fact that we are an elementary school and we encourage students to work cooperatively. Our emphasis is not on individual or team competition; we prefer to help all of our students meet their potential. Our test scores reflect that our students demonstrate academic excellence: In 2017 Kester Magnet scored 912 in English Language Arts and 903 in Math.
Athletic Teams:
Community Partnerships:
Our strongest partners are our parents. We view education as a triangle, with the child at the top vertex and parents and teachers as the bottom vertices. Each is needed to ensure a complete and positive educational experience. To achieve this balance we depend on our partnership with parents for support and encouragement both in volunteer hours and fundraising.

Other Theme-Based Activities:
Computerwisekids: Thanks to the Parent Teacher Association, every class attends lessons in our new computer lab with our specially trained computer teacher. Our goal is to ready our students for skills needed in a world of technology and to help students become comfortable and fluent in all aspects of computer science. Language Arts and Social Science are presented with core literature and project-based assignments. Students learn to use the Icons of Depth and Complexity to explore aspects of literature and events in history. Mystery Science is a web based learning tool that is available to our teachers thanks to the generosity of our parent booster club. This program is directly aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards that have been adopted by California. This program is also reinforce by instruction in our Science Lab. Lego Robotics: Our classes are using specially designed Lego equipment to present engineering and problem solving to our students. These activities are now being reinforced and extended into subsequent grades. Music and Dance: Students receive weekly lessons with our talented music teacher. They are given lessons in voice, choreography, and stage presence. At the end of the year we present a musical revue to all of our wonder Kester families. PE: Each week the students receive an hour of specific athletic PE skills with a PE coach.
Wall of Fame/Notable Alumni:
After forty years of educating gifted and talented students, we could never list all of our Notable Alumni on this platform. Many of our students have gone on to prestigious schools such as Stanford, UC Berkley, UCLA, and USC. Others have been able to attend schools such as Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Cornell, and Carnegie Melon. Career paths are varied, with many going into the sciences and engineering, while others choose business and education.
