Our Magnet School is filled with opportunities to explore the themes of math, technology, and environmental studies. As a math magnet, our teachers are trained in Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). Students are encouraged to work together to find multiple problem-solving strategies. As an environmental studies magnet, all classes work with master gardeners to learn about the life cycle of a plant, sustainable agriculture, and healthy food choices through hands-on experiences in our growing garden. Additionally, our 4th grade students take a 3-day field trip to the Catalina Island Marine Institute and our 5th grade students visit NatureBridge Science Camp in the Santa Monica Mountains for 3 days. As a technology magnet, we have 1-1 Chromebooks in grades 3-5, and iPads in grades TK-2. All classes are equipped with Smart Boards. Additionally, we have a full time technology teacher from Planet Bravo. During their time at Westminster, our students learn computer literacy skills, game development, programming, and coding!
