Program Description
Gifted Magnets serve students who demonstrate ability or strong potential to work two years above grade level in academic subjects. These centers offer enriched interdisciplinary academic environments that are exciting, challenging, and encourage students to use creative/critical-thinking skills. High Ability and Highly Gifted applicants may apply to a Gifted Magnet.

Our school has a strong faculty/instructional program that supports content standards and common core standards, critical thinking, and collaboration among teachers/peers. Students participate in standard based extracurricular experiences via well-planned academic instruction,and exciting field trips.

Parents please come and request for Magnet Coordinator for tour. Also find out about the Gifted process for students who need to be tested for their gifted ability.

Academic/Career Pathways:
Our core academic program is designed to develop unique education opportunities for gifted/high-achieving LAUSD students wishing to challenge themselves in an accelerated Magnet-school environment. This is achieved through a Common Core Standards-based program emphasizing use of differentiated learning experiences, specific Gifted/Talented Education (GATE) instructional methods, and developmentally appropriate instruction based on the needs, interests and abilities of our students.

Our instructional Enrichment Program includes opportunities for students to participate in high-interest field trips that enhance classroom learning and enrich student awareness of educational resources around Los Angeles. Enrichment trips may include visits to presidential libraries, outdoor sailing centers, fine art and natural history museums, science centers, and performing arts venues, among others. This enhances our students educational community partnerships.

Other Theme-Based Activities:
Drew Gifted/High Achieving Magnet increases the students’ development of technology by using programs such as IXL math program Google Docs, Google Classroom, Google Slides, Khan Academy, Kahoots, Robot Programming, I-Movies, Power Point Presentations, and Microsoft Word, to supplemental core curriculum. This technology is used to write research papers, and create a high-level educational project that promotes 21st century learning. Our school is continuing to increase the implementation of project-based learning using Chrome Books and 1 to 1 I-Pads.
