Program Description
Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Magnets. Learning the skills and knowledge for creating, refining, and sharing works in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry promotes teamwork, communication, creative thinking, and decision-making abilities. These are all traits needed to function successfully in the competitive and media-rich 21st century. Whether the student has already achieved a level of accomplishment or demonstrated an interest or potential to grow in an art form, Visual and Performing Arts Magnets provide highly rewarding learning experiences.

The Film & Media Magnet program provides a diverse learning environment for interdisciplinary exploration in the cinematic arts as well as other media, including social-media. Even if film and media is not a career choice, the skills learned through this program (such as technology and collaboration) are beneficial no matter what career you choose. The program aims to: • Engage individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, • Facilitate exploration of the broad potentials of cinematic arts as ubiquitous tools across multiple domains, • Develop imaginative critical thinkers who may become leaders in the field of cinematic arts. HONORS COURSES The FAM program provides a rigorous curriculum focused on the Common Core Standards approached through the lens of film and media with the intent to prepare them for college or a career in the cinematic arts or other media art forms. Honors courses are available for students who meet the criteria.
