Program Description
The Liberal Arts Magnet theme provides programs that prepare students to be knowledgeable citizens of the 21st century and empower them to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The programs are dedicated to the formation of knowledge in Humanities, Social Policy or World Languages areas or to utilize alternative pedagogies. Academic excellence and commitment to the values of diversity, community and collaboration provide the foundation in Liberal Arts Magnet schools.

Our Magnet prepares students to assume professional roles in a global economy by offering instruction in French, Spanish, and International Studies. The Magnet has partnered with the Southern California Business Academy to give students the opportunity to take business classes.

The Gardena High School Foreign Language Magnet is focused on providing our students a rigorous academic program while simultaneously fostering respect and tolerance for all cultures in our diverse global society. The courses taken by our students are aligned to A-G requirements, so that each and every one of our graduates are college and career ready and have command of the 21st century skills needed to succeed.
Magnet Mission:
The Gardena High School Foreign Language Magnet has multiple core values and identifying characteristics. The primary focus of our program is that our students graduate with the unique distinction of being certified as Biliterate by the State of California. By meeting state requirements, these students are able to earn a Seal on their diploma signifying this noteworthy accomplishment. The goal is for our Foreign Language Magnet students to develop a sense of respect and tolerance for all cultures. A few ways this is accomplished is through partnerships with sister countries, multicultural events and classroom projects that foster awareness and tolerance, and exposure to careers that involve dealing with a diverse global society. Our Gardena High School Foreign Language Magnet will offer students robust opportunities that include, but are not limited to, internships, scholarships, exposure to careers that involve biliteracy and dealings with peoples of all cultures, and college partnerships. Moreover, we will continue our partnership with our sister program the Southern California International Business Academy.
