Magnet Vision:
The Law and Public Service Magnet is a community of diverse students, educators, and community partners, collaborating to provide all students with a personalized learning experience. Students will develop an understanding of the underlying legal, social, political, and economic issues that impact an urban community. We will empower our graduates with the skills, knowledge, and civic responsibility to influence positive change in their community.
Magnet Mission:
• College and Career Ready LAPS graduates will meet all the A-G University of California requirements and will be encouraged to complete college-level courses at the local community college. Students will experience a rigorous academic curriculum with a focus on emerging needs of the legal, governmental, and public service fields. Our goal is to broaden students’ minds to a world of educational and career opportunities by exposing them to various careers, internships, and field trips to supplement learning, as well as bringing in guest speakers from related professions. • Civic Responsibility It is our goal to provide students with rigorous, thematic instruction and to develop a sense of civic responsibility in each of our graduates. Students will develop an understanding of their place in civil society and learn to connect the underlying legal, social, political, and economic issues that impact an urban community. Students will have opportunities to become active citizens of our community by participating in work with our community partners. • Community Our small school provides each student with a personalized learning environment in which students can realize their full potential and explore their interests in law and public service. We are a diverse community of students, educators, and community members, where all members are valued.
