Program Description
Public Service Magnets are designed and tailored to prepare and young people who wish to pursue careers in criminology, fire, forensics, medicine, law and political science. There is strong focus on critical thinking, problem solving and communication, enabling students to see the connections between their classroom curriculum and the challenges of today’s world. These Magnets are ideal settings for future doctors, fire fighters, lawyers, police officers and other professions related to the Public Service field.

Our medical curriculum and partnership with Orthopaedic Institute for Children exposes students to careers in medicine and science through access experience-based learning in environments including: hospitals, clinics & research laboratories. Hospital internships, volunteer opportunities, and medical lectures stimulate awareness and encourage our students to pursue a profession in medicine. The collaboration with our community partners including USC Viterbi School of Engineering, Dignity Health California Hospital, USC Med-Cor, UCLA Health and School of Medicine, St. Johns, The Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Los Angeles Trade Tech College provides our students a critical component of the academic and medical theme. Our students also benefit from the numerous internships and over $50 thousand dollars in scholarships from our community partners.

Tour Information:
School tours are available on Wednesdays at 1:30pm and Thursdays at 9am. Tours start the 2nd week of September and run through the 3rd week of October. Please call the main office to RSVP a tour.
Magnet Vision:
Orthopaedic Hospital Medical Magnet High School engages students in a rigorous curriculum focused on college and career readiness. OHMMHS provides learning experiences that focus on acquisition of academic knowledge for application to student inquiry, problem-solving, an evidence-based argumentation while also supporting learning experiences associated with the medical field. High standards for behavior, responsibility, accountability, and community service are embedded in the instructional setting to develop the critical thinking and social skills necessary for transition into post-secondary pathways.
