Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Magnets. Learning the skills and knowledge for creating, refining, and sharing works in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry promotes teamwork, communication, creative thinking, and decision-making abilities. These are all traits needed to function successfully in the competitive and media-rich 21st century. Whether the student has already achieved a level of accomplishment or demonstrated an interest or potential to grow in an art form, Visual and Performing Arts Magnets provide highly rewarding learning experiences.

Students benefit from rigorous academics and the opportunity to focus on beginning and advanced studies in dance, theater, music and visual arts. Academic and elective teachers work together to create compelling project themes that engage students in a deeper and more meaningful exploration of English, math, history and science. Our curriculum is designed to foster collaborative relationships among students, teachers, families, and community. Our mission is to expand our students' academic, artistic, and career goals in the visual and performing arts preparing them for college and beyond.

Magnet Vision:
The VAPA vision is to expand our students' academic, artistic, and career goals in the visual and performing arts preparing them for college and beyond. To accomplish our vision, the VAPA Magnet provides abundant opportunities to perform, present, participate, showcase, compete and exhibit. Students participate in a VAPA guest speaker series, master classes, a junior job shadow in the arts and a senior arts internship.
Magnet Mission:
The mission of the Verdugo Hills High School VAPA Magnet is to provide sequential arts based instruction along with performance and presentational opportunities in dance, music, theatre and visual art delivered by highly qualified experts. VAPA teachers use arts integration strategies to assist students in making connections between arts disciplines, other core subjects and an annual character building theme.

Other Theme-Based Activities:
An annual character building theme provides focus and connections for all of our VAPA students and staff. Cross curricular projects are developed each spring. Our fall play, spring musical, music concerts, dance recitals and our Visual Art Trashion Show celebrates our annual theme. Currently our VAPA theme is "Celebrating Brave Acts: the exploration of courage and determination."
