School For Advanced Studies (SAS)
SAS is a District program designed for students identified as gifted, highly gifted, and/or
students who demonstrate superior academic achievement with appropriate documentation.
The program is designed to serve students by assessing their academic needs and providing instruction
which meets and exceeds state content standards as described in the California Education
Code. Applications for Schools for Advanced Studies are available at Local District
schools beginning March, 2008. District transportation is NOT available. Eligible students in grades K through 11 may apply.
A transfer application is available at the school of residence and is submitted
directly to the school of choice during the month of May.
Charter Schools
Charters are public schools with an innovative, rigorous standards-based and standards-aligned
curriculum authorized by LAUSD and approved by the State of California. To apply, contact the school directly. (Do
NOT use the application in the brochure.) District transportation is NOT available.
Charter schools are administered by the Charter Schools Office, (213) 241-2665.
Open Enrollment
Schools with designated available seats will accept applications during the month
of May. In
schools where applications exceed space, a random drawing will be held in June.
Open Enrollment is coordinated by School Management Services Office as an alternative to resident schools.

or go to any LAUSD school in May for a list of
participating schools and the number of openings at each school. District transportation
