NEW ELECTRONIC METHOD TO CONFIRM RECEIPT of your child(s) Choices application!

Parents who provide an e-mail address on the Choices application will receive a confirmation of receipt via e-mail after submitting an application to the Student Integration Services office, in addition to the traditional confirmation letter that will be mailed. The parents’ e-mail address information on the Choices application form will be maintained in the strictest confidence and in compliance with District security policies.

Congratulations to Academic Decathlon State Participants

The Office of Student Integration Services congratulates the Magnet students of Palisades Charter High School, North Hollywood High School, Marshall High School and Garfield High School for competing in the California Academic Decathlon State Competition. The students are to be commended for their fine performances. Congratulations to the coaches for the outstanding performances of their teams.

Congratulations to SOCES Magnet for Accomplishments

The Office of Student Integration Services congratulates Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies (SOCES) for being named a National Magnet School of Distinction by the national organization, Magnet Schools of America. School representatives will be honored at the 26th Magnet Schools of America Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the end of April, 2008. They are the only winner from California this year and the first winner from the Los Angeles Unified School District.


Congratulations to Belvedere Latin Music Magnet for Accomplishments

The Office of Student Integration Services congratulates Belvedere Middle School Latin Music Magnet, winner of the Fidelity Future Stage Award. This award partners the young musicians at Belvedere with the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.


Superior Court Upholds Magnet Program

Superior Court Judge Gutman upholds the lawfulness of the District's Magnet program. In rejecting a Proposition 209 challenge and granting the District's request to dismiss the lawsuit, Judge Gutman concluded that the District remains under the Crawford court order, which mandates, among other programs, the continuance of a voluntary Magnet program.

Superintendent David L. Brewer, III made the announcement at the Tuesday, December 11, 2007 Board of Education Meeting assuring parents that the Magnet Program and the Choices application process will continue on schedule. In a Los Angeles Times article on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, L. A. Unified General Counsel Kevin Reed commented "We are very please with the court's decision, ... We have an important desegregation program that has done great things for kids, and it didn't go away with the passage of [anti-affirmative action] Prop 209."

Five Hundred Five (505) schools were identified, from among 18,790 public high schools in 40 states using data from the 2005-2006 school year, as the best across the country. "A three step process determined the best high schools. The first two steps ensured that the schools served all of their students well, using state proficiency standards as the measuring benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepared students for college-level work . . ." (using Advanced Placement data as the benchmark for success). Gold and Silver Medal schools represent 3% of the analyzed.


No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program

The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.

NASA Explorer School Program

The Office of Student Integration Services congratulates the participants in the NASA Explorer School Program

In 2007, Vintage Magnet School was one of 25 schools in the United States selected to become a NASA Explorer School. As a NASA Explorer School, Vintage Magnet will have a special relationship with NASA that gives access to funds and resources that are not available to any other schools.
